Scrapbook for River Barging
the Ohio River
River Barging the Ohio River Tour, October 19
- 26, 2005
is now complete. Enjoy
the picture journey and the WOW
experience of tour members.
Our travel takes us to
Cincinnati, OH, the starting point for this relaxing and educational trip on
the calm waters of the Ohio River.
|

Our home for the next seven days is the R/B River Explorer - Welcome!
|

The R/B River Explorer is a combination of two river barges, powered by
a tow-boat. |

It has lodging for 200, a dining room, auditorium, lounge area,
recreation areas, fitness room - all the comforts of home. |

In Ripley, OH we learn of the Underground Railroad, and Eliza, the slave
girl and her baby featured in "Uncle Tom's Cabin". |

We visit several Underground "Stations" along the river front.
|

Kentucky is horse country and Keeneland Racetrack is home to
thoroughbred races and auctions. |
|

The horses are paraded in front of the eager crowd.
|

The track is wet,
but we are dry. |

The track is prepared... |
|

the starting gate is in place... |

and they're off... |

an exciting finish. |
|

Another day we pass through several locks - coming up. |

We pull into place, the lock fills with water... |

the gates open and we continue up the river, beyond Kentucky to West
Virginia. |
|
Always something going on along the river --
|
|

coal barges pass by... |

today we take on fuel from a supply barge... |

we visit a small town with its history, its shops, its antique stores. |
|

Back home on the Barge, things to do - walk the deck, 14 times around is
one mile |

Supper with friends, perhaps some local cuisine will be served |

Tonight local musicians share their mountain music. |
|

Take a few minutes to work on the "community" puzzle... |

or head up to the bridge to chat with the captain. |

Our relaxing river cruise is nearing its end. We gather for group
fellowship and for a group photo. |
|
|

Time to say Good Bye, but memories remain.
A beautiful time to cruise the Ohio River.
