Peaks, Parks & Canyons, September 18 - October
5, 2002, is now complete. Enjoy the picture journey and the WOW experience
of tour members.
Welcome to the west... following the Pony Express Trail,
through Nebraska...
through Colorado and finally to southern Utah...
Our driver,
Our parks guide...
Balanced Rock in Arches National Park.
Mesa Arch in Canyonlands, some take photos under and through the arch,
some walk on top of the arch... all enjoy a picnic in God's great
outdoors.
Preparing for our hike down into Bryce Canyon
Hiking down the trail with the hoodoos and spires
towering above us. With the rock behind us as our sounding board,
to sing "Blessed Assurance" sounds wonderful as it rebounds off nearby
rocks.
What's to see out there?
And the
awesome
Grand Canyon.
The beautiful
fall colors
of the
Quaking Aspen.
Who can forget that all-afternoon boat ride on Lake Powell. After an
all-you-can-eat lunch at the marina restaurant, our boat clipped along
giving us thrills and big splashes as we headed toward our destination.
After a short hike our reward
was a view of Rainbow Bridge.
Returning, our reward...
On the land of the Navajo Nation, the Tribal Park,
Monument Valley, gave us a new appreciation for the culture and
lifestyle of these early Americans. We even encountered a wind,
rain and sand storm.
Inside the hogan, we noted the structure and
were given a weaving and hair tying demonstration.
The terrain is filled with interesting features.
They came from Indiana, Maryland, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota,
Texas and Virginia to enjoy this special travel adventure.
On the edge of Goosenecks State Park, a dramatic place for our Sunday
worship service. The strains of "How Great Thou Art" can reverberate
for miles in these canyon walls.
4 - Corners -- the
only place in the USA where
four states share a common corner boundary.
Mesa Verde National Park in Southwest Colorado, home of the
cliff dwelling Anasazi people. Here we also saw some dramatic remains
of a major forest fire. As we left the park in rain and lightening, we
saw the promise of the rainbow.
The narrow gauge stream railroad from Durango to Silverton
took us through much spectacular scenery, the narrow valley, the rushing
stream, the wildlife, the snowcapped mountains with patches of bright yellow
leaved Aspen trees. We even had to pause for a rockslide which
partially covered the tracks. A trip to be remembered, including the
steam and cinders! Finally we arrived in Silverton.
Before returning to our homes, we needed the challenge of Pikes Peak.
The mountain sheep along the way were a plus.
With some sadness we take leave of our tour family. But we carry much
joy and many good memories. Happy Trails!
