9, 2004, is now complete. Enjoy the picture journey and the WOW experience
of tour members.
With stops to pick up tour members in PA, OH, IN, MI, IL,
we were finally in the plains of midwestern US. We heard the Pony
Express story in Nebraska...
Pony Express station
then we began to see the mighty Rocky Mountains near Denver, the "mile high
city."
After a worship experience with the Glenwood Mennonite
Church (CO), our first national park of interest was Arches National Park,
Moab, Utah.
A brief hike in
Canyonland
and a
delicious picnic
supper at sunset.
A rewarding several
mile hike up and
down to Delicate Arch.
Beauty "As Far As The Eye Can See"
Aspen in full fall color in Dixie National Forest
A little fun at Denny's Wigwam
Shared refreshment - "be sure to drink lots of liquids when traveling in
these western parks."
End of the day reward - a double rainbow after the storm.
The Grand Canyon, so mighty and so beautiful at sunset.
Into Navajo Land, a boat ride on Lake Powell past unique rock formations.
The ride so peaceful, so cool.
Navajo Tapestry Boat Cruise
Navajo jewelry, a fine craft
The three sisters pose in front of the three sisters rock
formation.
Before a hike down to the dwellings of the Anisasi, a
special outdoor luncheon of local fare was served. A beautiful setting
until it rained, then it snowed, then it hailed. But we still walked
to the Spruce Tree House of these cliff dwellers.
The rejuvenating landscape
after a forest fire in Mesa Verde.
The natural beauty of the fall landscape on the "million dollar highway"
enroute to Silverton.
Old #481, narrow gauge train arrives in Silverton on its run from Durango.
A light dusting of snow as we crossed Monarch Pass...
and, of course, snow at the top of Pikes Peak.
Leaving the mountains behind, we are soon in
the flatlands of Kansas. After a visit to the boyhood home of Dwight
Eisenhower,
we spend time remembering our journey as we return to our homes.
