Scrapbook for Polar Bear Adventure - Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
Polar Bear Adventure Tour, November 5 - 11, 2005
is now complete. Enjoy
the picture journey and the WOW
experience of tour members.
After a worship experience, and getting acquainted with the Province of
Manitoba
...time to fly further north to the town of Churchill
... snow is already on the ground in this town of 800 people and 1200
Polar Bear (in season).
Our accommodation is at the Lazy Bear Lodge and Cafe, a beautiful log
structure.
Our host and guide
is
Wally. After a
long day
on the
tundra, he brought
his new born son
to us.
It's time to go looking for those big, white, fluffy polar bear.
We do it from our Tundra Buggy.
Our first sighting...
they sometimes get very close
...and very curious
...we learn about Polar Bears from Wally
...we are warned to
keep alert
...we see several
at once.
...we see them up close
... they see us up close
...a mother and cubs
...they tussle
... they tumble
...they growl
...when they get hot, they spread out on the ice/snow to cool off
... then they begin again
...all the while we are keeping warm in our Tundra Buggy.
Must be bear around - look at those large tracks.
Some bear misbehave and wonder into town. They are trapped and...
...taken to the Polar Bear jail.
Time passes quickly as we watch the antics of these Polar Bears. They
have gathered on the outskirts of Churchill (on the shore of Hudson Bay),
waiting for the bay to freeze so they can go out on the ice to look/fish for
their gourmet food, seals.
Mission accomplished, we've seen polar bears; we saw a few other
interesting things
... the story of Churchill
...an Arctic Hare
... an Arctic Fox
... Ptarmigan - brown in the summer, white
in the winter
...the summer port of Churchill with its
grain silos
... windswept Willow bush
... our happy group outside the Lazy Bear Lodge.
Nothing quite like the sunset across the barren tundra. A unique
experience among the Polar Bears.
