The Lake Michigan Circle Tour, October 1 - 11, 2003, is now complete.
Enjoy the picture journey and the WOW experience of tour members.
The fall winds blow and invite us to view the fall harvest
and colorful foliage along the shores of Lake Michigan.
By the time we reach Battle Creek, our tour family is complete.
A Grrreat greeting by
Tony the Tiger at Kellogs Cereal City.
Then on to the Dutch town of Holland
with its Big Red Lighthouse.
The northern part of Michigan's mitten is known as the "cherry
capitol of the world." Of course, this is pumpkin
season. Our visit to the Music Museum proved educational and
nostalgic.
The Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes rise quickly from the Lake's shoreline.
The end of the Mission Peninsula finds us half way between.
After worship and fellowship meal at Maple River Church, Brutus
(MI), member Jake Snider tells and shows about ice fishing,
cross-country skiing, and the Michigan fish industry.
On Mackinaw Island, a carriage ride of this grand island,
then a grand buffet lunch and tour, then a grand nap on the porch -- all
at the Grand Hotel.
Then we crossed the Mighty Mac Bridge to the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan. The UPers are a hardy bunch, live off the land.
An explanation of the timber business, the big equipment needed, the
management of the forests...
...then a demonstration -- cut the tree, strip the branches, cut into
100 inch lengths, pile for shipment.
Continue down the west side of the Lake for a visit to beautiful Door
County Peninsula, Wisconsin.
The lighthouse at Sturgeon Bay
Small towns with fall colors, orchards and farm markets with
fall produce.
And who can forget the fish boil luncheon. And why
not, with so much shoreline, so much fresh fish -
First - boil the water, add carrots
and
potatoes
Second - add the white
fish,
kerosene the fire for
the final burn
Third - lunch is ready, tasty and
delicious!
A final look at the fall foliage before we
leave these beautiful lakeshores.
After a meal in an Amish home and visit to the Mennonite center of
northern Indiana...
And a stop at Sauder Village (OH) for lunch in The Barn and visit to the
Museum...
We scatter to our homes, with new learnings, new friendships, and
beautiful fall colors in our memories.
TOUR MEMBERS SAID…
"Tour was well organized. Enjoyed
introduction of all the people."
George &
Verna (PA)
"We had been wanting to tour this area (on our own), but realize that
the stone quarry and tree harvesting probably could not have been accomplished
on our own. Your advance research made it rewarding. You made the
right connections."

Esther (PA)
"There was something to be learned each day."
Betty &
Stark (PA)
"You obviously did your homework well, your gift of packing a lot in,

"Glad we were able to be picked up to join the group along the way.
You were gracious to those of us who slowed down the group because of limited
