A day of travel brings us to just outside of Syracuse, NY to
begin our cruise on one of the countries most successful mid-1800s
transportation ditch -- The Erie Canal.
Leaving our motorcoach and
luggage behind...
...we board the Emita II, our daytime house-on-water for the next days.
An introduction by Captain Dan
and a few safety features, and we are off.
No, we are not pulled along by a mule named 'Sal' (as
the Erie Canal song says). But we did travel more than "fifteen miles on
the Erie Canal" (as the Erie Canal song says). Our travels took us
through eight locks and nearly 100 miles westward, Syracuse to
Rochester.
"Low bridge, everybody down,
.... and continue on our cruise.
low bridge for we're coming thru town..."
(as the Erie Canal song says). We
enter
Lock #24, are lifted to the next level...
Evenings our lodging is in motels in towns
along the Canal.
During the day, lot's to do and see along the Erie
Canal...
