The Alaska Tour/Cruise, July 10 - 24, 2003, is now complete.
Enjoy the picture journey and the WOW experience of tour members.
Alaska, the 49th state, the great land, the "Last
Frontier"; what an exciting place to visit.
From the air, the icefields can be seen on top of the mountains and the
tracks of the great glaciers as they snake down to the valleys below.
The Klondike Express took us on a hundred mile journey to view the
wildlife and the more than 26 glaciers in the pristine Prince William
Sound.
In the Matanuska Valley we visited the farmland area of
southcentral Alaska.
Beautiful flowers
line the streets of
Palmer, the farming
capital of Alaska.
A vegetable farm does well in the long days of light.
On a former "homestead" farm, Musk Ox are raised for their
hair, 10 times warmer than sheeps wool.
Modern dome-window railcars took us to Denali National Park.
Yes, we got a view of Mt. McKinley, also saw a dog sled demonstration by
Iditerod champ Jeff King. Other tour members went river rafting,
attended dinner theatre, took flights to Mt. McKinley and visit to a
trappers cabin.
Alaska's interior is fascinating; on our travel by motorcoach overland
from Alaska to the Yukon Territory...
An Athabaskan woman cleaned
a salmon in 28 seconds
The Alaska oil pipeline as it crosses the river near Delta Junction
By land through Chicken and Eagle...
By water down the Yukon River...
We arrived in Dawson City, center of the 1898 gold rush -- where the
Yukon & Klondike rivers join.
Home of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
And place for tourists to pan
for gold.
In addition to walking the dusty boardwalk streets
seeing the gold dredge and homes of writers Robert Service and Jack
London, our group gathered for a worship experience in the closed-down
local lounge.
Back in Alaska, at Skagway, we board our cruise ship for our journey down
the Inside Passage. Enjoy the "elegant" water safety
drill, the delectable Baked Alaska and the ever present mid-night buffet.
Our journey concluded, under the Lion's Gate Bridge to our "port of
sails" in Vancouver, BC. Now a time for remembering the
wonderful sights and sounds of the largest state, and the fellowship of
our wonderful traveling companions.
TOUR MEMBERS SAID…
"We enjoyed the dog mushing demonstration and
visit to Husky Homestead. Musher Jeff King was so personable and
informative."

"Seeing the first moose and bear was a thrill. We appreciated the
spiritual emphasis along the way, also the communion service was appreciated."
David &
Rhoda (PA)
"Water rafting in Denali Park was especially exciting. I
appreciated the land tour of Alaska better than the cruise portion. There
were always surprises appearing around the corner."
Marj (PA)
"We had hoped to see more wildlife, but of course, that's not always
available."
