Our Aer Lingus flight was delayed out of JFK, but we avoided the Iceland volcanic ash and arrived safely in Dublin, Republic of Ireland's largest city.

Although a bit groggy from overnight on the airplane, our Driver/Guide kept us awake and busy our first day.

Into the beautiful countryside

We learned some traditional Irish cooking . . .

. . . some Irish music, steps and rhythm!

We learned of "the troubles" between Northern Ireland
and the Republic of Ireland in the South.

The Corrymeela Peace
and Training Center.

The church we attended sits on the border of the two sides of the divided city of Belfast. It ministers to both sides. Many wall paintings depict the history and story of "the troubles."

Some beautiful scenery in Northern
Ireland and the unusual Giants
Causeway rock formations.

Ireland is very rural and has many nooks and crannies to explore.

The Bogs (peat) . . .

Still harvested by hand for use as heating fuel and soil enrichment.

10-30 feet thick
veins of peat.

Drying for weeks or months before use.

Other Industry and Crafts

Harvesting mussels,

Smoked Fish

Textile weaving;

sweaters for sale.

Pottery and glassware.

Potato fields,

hedge fences,

stone fences and broken castles,

small farms,

and thatch roofs.

beautiful cliffs of Moher,

Dog herding sheep demonstration and sheep shearing.

Blarney Castle . . .

. . . waiting in line to kiss the Blarney Stone and finally receive the gift of eloquence.

In addition to GREEN, Ireland has many COLORS!

Typically Irish "Molly Malone."

We say goodbye to the Emerald Isle.
