You lose a day and some sleep on the 15 hour flight across the Pacific. Northern Australia, it's tropical rain forest and Aboriginal culture awaits us.

Learn how to throw a boomerang, hunting spear or play a didgeridoo.

Our sailboat ride takes us from modern city Cairns
to the Great Barrier for snorkeling and underwater viewing.

Our first glimpses of Sydney and it's Opera House.

Us!

Sydney harbor cruise . . .

. . . historic downtown in springtime
bloom - where the city began.

Just outside of the city our first introduction to the "down under" animals.

And the Three Sisters of the Blue Mountains with blooming bush all around.

Each town has its colorful plantings in the village park.

Suffering from a multi-year drought . . . the farmer tells of hard times

Lunch together in the backyard with the farmer and his wife.

Scenes along the Great Ocean Road with the
ever churning Tasmine Sea in the background.

Next, on to Melbourne, it's Victoria Market and city park.

After Phillip Island's birds and Fairy Penguin Parade. . .
. . . we enter Bushranger Country and hear the Ned Kelly legends.

Our driver, Robert, shows how to make "billy tea"

. . . just add this much tea and hot water

. . .swing the billy

. . . using a Tim Tam cookie as a "straw"

. . . enjoy delicious tea with touch of chocolate

. . . a satisfied customer - yum!

We sing "Waltzing Matilda" with local country singer Lazy Harry leading.

After a brief visit to the National Capital in Canberra, and a final meal together we say good bye and thank you, Robert, for this good introduction to Aussie-land.

The mountains, then the plateau of New Zealand comes into view. We are immediately welcomed to supper with a New Zealand family in the city of Christchurch. Wonderful pavlova for dessert.

Our travels take us south along the east coast of the South Island, that is the Pacific Ocean side; from the Scottish town of Dunedin we join a cruise along the Otago Peninsula and enjoy sailing action, waterlife - seabirds, seals and the rare Albatros.

Now on our way to the west coast of the South Island, that is the Tasman Sea Side;
through the Eglinton Valley into Fiordland Park by way of the
hand carved Homer Tunnel - on our way to cruise Milford Sound.

Lunch on board . . opening to Tasman Sea . . waterfalls up close and personal.

Our motorcoach transports us through farming and pastoral countryside from Milford Sound to the alpine resort town of Queenstown. A restful place to spend a day.

On the North Island we are treated to a sheep shearing demo along with sheep dogs.
Nineteen breeds of sheep.

North Island is home to the Maori, native people. Tour Chief Mann gives traditional nose touch greeting.
The traditional Hangi includes dinner and cultural dance.

Maori are skilled wood carvers.

They live in the area of hot lava beds and geysers.

Enroute to Auckland we enjoy a delightful lunch served by the Robinson farm family.

From Auckland we say our farewells to the friendly island people of the Pacific. Welcome home.

"I liked the timing of having the same hotel two or three evenings."
- Dot, PA

"We had a good introduction to the Maori (NZ) people; could have had a bit more information on the Aboriginal people (Australia). We had a wonderful trip, so many new sights and information - will be proccessing it all for a long time."
